Cathleen Lesperance
The combination of travels and early exposure to music ranging from Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley to her older brother′s vast collection of rock albums influenced Cathleen′s music. A brief and early foray into the musical realm was met with success with her song "What Comes Around Goes Around" included on Ottawa′s "Rasputin′s Folk Cafe" CD Compilation in 1999.
She also recorded a 5 song EP during that time while living in the NWT which garnered her a spot at "Folk on the Rocks" Folk Festival in Yellowknife.
While still early on in her musical development, it wasn't unusual for her to pack up her guitar and hit the open road to show up at coffee houses from Vancouver to Ottawa to Winnipeg.
After a six year hiatus from music, she's emerged with new material. Given her love of adventure and of the open road, it′s no surprise her debut album is titled "Gypsy As I Go" and was released for sale on March 14/08.
Pure and raw talent, her unique voice is both soulful and soothing. She creates a landscape of visual imagery as vast as a prairie sky, and she draws you in with her disarmingly honest and candid style. With a strong Canadiana feel, the album ranges from dreamy folk infused songs like "Highway" to rock based "Little Boy Blue" to simple and haunting "Josephine" where Cathleen pays tribute to a terminally ill songwriter and her own Metis roots.
"Gypsy As I Go" is available to purchase in Saskatoon at the MacNally Robinson Bookstore and in Regina at Chapter′s Bookstore. It can also be found online at cdbaby.com under the "Editor's New Music Picks" section.
